“You can’t rely on how you look to sustain you. What actually sustains us, what is fundamentally beautiful, is compassion, for yourself and for those around you. That kind of beauty inflames the heart and enchants the soul…”
I’m pretty sure you all know who this lovely lady is. I’d come across some red carpet photos of her online and every time I would be so blown away by her amazing sense of style. I have yet to watch 12 Years a Slave, but i’m convinced it’s a great movie - hello Best Picture of this year’s Oscars! Not to mention, Lupita won Best Actress for this film. She always seems to say the most inspiring words - her acceptance speech to the Oscars and this video, which I think every girl should watch:
Actresses that I absolutely adore - I wish people wouldn’t just see me as the Asian girl who beats everyone up, or the Asian girl with no emotion. People see Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock in a romantic comedy, but not me. You add race to it, and it became, ‘Well, she’s too Asian’, or, ‘She’s too American’. I kind of got pushed out of both categories. It’s a very strange place to be. You’re not Asian enough and then you’re not American enough, so it gets really frustrating.
Fun fact: I prefer post or clip on earrings. Last week, I modeled a pair of handmade custom SHINE dagger clip-ons. My friend, Jeno is talented. He is at the marketplaces and on #etsy too. etsy.com/shop/jenowade #handmade #custom #jewelry #nyc #queendom #fashion #style #accessories #earrings
